After decades of stagnation, several new, modern family wineries are now revitalizing the wine sector in the region.
If you ask Pleven locals which three landmarks they would recommend to visitors, they would likely mention the Panorama Monument, Kaylaka Park, and the Wine Museum located in a cave within the park, home to bottles nearly a century old. When it comes to wine, the city takes pride in the Institute of Viticulture and Enology, established in 1901 as a collaborative initiative between Bulgaria and France. Pleven also boasts its long-standing, uninterrupted winemaking traditions, spanning from the Middle Ages to the socialist era, when the region was one of the key centers of Bulgaria’s powerful wine industry.
