It seems that Gorun Winery never got the chance to be seen as a young winery. From its very first appearance on the wine scene – at the Balkan Wine Festival ’22 – it claimed two gold medals, a silver medal, and the design award for that incredibly delicate, “embroidered” label that has left a lasting impression on every wine lover.
However, Gorun’s true sensation came with this year’s gold medal at Decanter. When has a rookie winery ever won gold at Decanter? And who would expect gold for Cabernet Franc from northern Bulgaria? Yet the world’s most critical wine jury described Gorun’s Cabernet Franc 2020 as “a concentrated, serious, and complex example with black plum, well-integrated oak, sleek tannins, a bright streak of vibrant freshness, and a truly long and elegant finish. A particularly stylish wine” (95 points).
Gorun’s second entry, Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2020, received a bronze medal with 87 points at the prestigious competition. The jury described it as “a very interesting wine with a fresh herbal nose, hints of graphite, red cherry, and well-integrated alcohol.”
As for Gorun’s third entry, Kaylashki Misket 2021, it fell just one point short of a medal.
